57 Gen Z Participants, One Trainer, Countless Lessons.
I just spent 4 days at Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd. with nearly 57 Gen Z participants (new PGET recruits) training them on hashtag#sales, hashtag#service, and hashtag#marketing.
Honestly, with nearly 30 years of industry experience behind me, I thought I was going there to teach—but I ended up learning just as much.
What struck me most was their energy and openness. They didn’t hold back - every thought came with a “why” and then another “why,” and another. Phew!
The questions just kept coming, and thankfully, so did my answers. Phew again!
They shared ideas that were bold and fresh, and ridiculously audacious! Made me want to scream and tear my hair out, till it struck me that every invention or innovation, a reality today, was once – bold, fresh and ridiculously audacious!
I spoke about customers, relationships, and long-term trust, they showed me how speed, technology, and creativity can change the game.
They suggested I drop the word “ship” from “relationship.” After all, ships are slow—and Gen Z have no patience for slow-moving connections. They want it fast, transparent, and real. They build bonds in moments, not months. And as unlikely as that may sound to us old fogies, I have seen it firsthand. Their ability to connect is Speedy Gonzales —my four-day session was living proof.
I went in as a trainer, I came back wiser.
Stand vindicated William Wordsworth, ‘the child is, father of the man’.
