Corporate Lessons from Phantom, The Ghost Who Walks.

Writer: Udayan Salim BanerjeeUdayan Salim Banerjee

As a child, I was completely captivated by Phantom. Reading his comics felt like living a double life. His adventures were mine, his loyal animal companions (Hero & Devil) were mine, and his ever-wise advisor Guran, would address me each time he advised the Phantom (I was a kid with a very vivid imagination).

Each comic was a new adventure, and I lived every moment of it with him, experiencing the thrill and danger of each story as if I were standing in his shoes.

As an adult, Phantom continues to captivate me. His ‘old jungle sayings’ feel more relevant today than ever. And this time, I speak not from my vivid imagination but from my 30 years of experience navigating the corporate jungle.

Let me share with you some of the Phantom’s popular ‘old jungle sayings’ and how they relate to the corporate world.

* “ The Ghost Who Walks will always walk alone."

Corporate leaders are often required to make difficult decisions which others may not understand. They are also required to walk the unchartered path which can be quite lonely, and scary, not to mention risky, especially if that path ends in a sink hole.

* “ The Ghost Who Walks never sleeps."

In today’s highly competitive VUCA environment, shutting your eyes to your customers can put you and your organization into a permanent state of sleep. If you can’t see the changes, how can you adapt? Stay fully alert and remain connected with your customers 24x7x365.

* “The Phantom’s anger is as deadly as his mercy is gentle.”

Your internal customers ( team members, colleagues, dealers, distributors, etc.) are not your competitors. Collaborate with them. If you want to compete, go to the market and fight the competition. Remember, the more you collaborate with your internal customers, the more they will help you keep your external customers satisfied and delighted.

* “The Phantom’s ring leaves a mark that cannot be erased.”

And that’s how you build customer loyalty and enhance your CLTV, by delivering superior quality products and services, consistently and predictably.

* “The Phantom sees others cannot.”

Great leaders see beyond today and envision tomorrow, anticipating opportunities and challenges before they arise. By seeing what others can't, they guide teams through uncertainty, inspire innovation, and shape the future.

* “The Phantom never forgets.”

Never forget your employees & clients, your past decisions and mistakes made. Remember your past experiences and use them to shape your future.

* “The Phantom moves faster than lightning and is stronger than a stampeding elephant.”

First mover advantage, supported by robust Ps – Product, Price, Promotion, Place, People, Process, etc.

* “The Phantom has the strength of ten tigers.”

Sometimes it takes a few pegs for us to awaken the tiger within us.

Truly, The Ghost Who Walks never dies.
