You're young, you're inexperienced, you're enthusiastic and you're new to the corporate world. You will make mistakes. But that doesn't mean you have to duplicate others' mistakes or repeat your own.
"Everyone makes mistakes. The important thing is to not make the same mistake twice". (Stephanie Perkins)
3 tips to minimise your mistakes:
1. THINK BEFORE YOU ACT
Think about what you need to know to do the task and then map it to what you know. In case of gap, plug it by reaching out to an experienced team member for knowledge & know how. In all probability you may not be doing anything that your team has not done earlier, so it’s just new to you but routine to them.
2. PROACTIVELY SEEK PITFALLS
Understand what to do as well as what not to do. The latter will help you identify stumbling blocks & pitfalls for which you can take preventive action. You do need to rise after every stumble & fall, but then again, you can’t be stumbling & falling every time. Definitely not for the same reason.
3. BE AWARE OF HUMAN ERROR
Processes in a reputed organisation are well established, tried and tested, so proven. SOPs help minimise errors, unfortunately humans may not. Ensure you’re not the human that makes the most errors. And this you can do by regularly reviewing your progress, asking for feedback, seeking suggestions & advice and accepting guidance from your more experienced team members
Now go make mistakes. Then use them as stepping stones to greatness.
