A remarkable group of seasoned sales professionals. High achievers, well-versed in the roller-coaster life of sales, unwaveringly focused on their goals and objectives.
What I admired most was their focus on finding solutions to the daily challenges and rejections encountered in the field. Their enthusiasm for facing and overcoming obstacles was truly inspiring, and their unwavering commitment to achieving results was deeply motivating. It's no surprise that Crompton saw them as worthy of further growth and advancement.
I am reminded of the story of Arthur Ashe.
Arthur Ashe was the 1975 Men’s Wimbledon Champion.
Tragically, due to HIV infected blood received during a heart surgery in 1983, Arthur Ashe died of AIDS-related pneumonia in 1993 at the age of 49.
When Arthur Ashe was ailing, he received hundreds of letters from fans around the world, commiserating with his unfortunate and unfair predicament.
One fan lamented - "Why does God have to select you for such a disease?”
To this Arthur Ashe replied:
The world over -
5 crore children start playing tennis,
50 lakh learn to play tennis,
5 lakh learn professional tennis,
50,000 come to the circuit
5000 reach the grand slam,
50 reach Wimbledon,
4 to the semi-finals,
2 to the finals,
When I was holding the cup I never asked God "Why me?"
And today in pain, I should not be asking God "Why me?”
Rather than dwelling in self-pity, Arthur Ashe redirected his energy to create the Arthur Ashe Foundation for the Defeat of AIDS and the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health. These initiatives aimed to educate people about HIV and AIDS, ultimately saving millions from the dreaded disease. Even though Arthur Ashe ultimately lost his battle with illness, his legacy was a victory.
